About the Author

Nico van der Merwe is the founder of the H.A.S.S. Group, specialising in the distribution of Swiss hearing aids and audiological equipment from the USA, as well as the manufacturing of custommade hearing protection devices for the mining and other industries in sub-Saharan Africa. Together with his wife Anita and their family, they have developed Ear Institutes throughout Southern Africa. They are also the founders of the Foundation for Children with a Hearing Loss in Southern Africa. Nico received the Ernst & Young/Fedlife Business Mover of the Year Award in 1996 and in 2009 was awarded the prestigious Chancellor's Medal by the Council and Senate of the University of Pretoria for his lifelong service to the deaf, including the establishment of the Eduplex School. He is a dedicated Christian, a fitness enthusiast and has had the privilege of visiting all seven continents of the world more than once. He is also an international speaker on various topics covered in this book.
