Synopsis
In the middle of the Mojave Desert, in the silver mining boomtown of Calico, a little girl with no name has been brutally murdered. At 28, Matt Mc Alister is the youngest Circuit Court Judge ever appointed. Appointed by President Abraham Lincoln as the United States Judge for the 9th US Circuit, Matt travels the 9th Circuit Court in California on his Morgan breed horse, Dakota. He dispenses justice with his gavel and his guns, two Peacemaker revolvers he received during his service in the Civil War, as a Captain assigned to the Union's 25th Illinois Infantry Regiment. When he is summoned to Calico, Matt will have to tangle with the town's wealthy merchant and banker; an outlaw and gun-for-hire; a capable and prominent defense attorney, nicknamed the Bulldog; the shadow of his father, a Confederate Colonel; and the recurring nightmares he carries with him from the many Civil War battles he has participated in. Will he be able to overcome all that stands in his way and administer justice on behalf of the nameless little girl, and solve her murder? The Circuit Rider is an action packed historical Civil War western legal thriller. The Circuit Rider - Calico is intended to be the first in a series of Circuit Rider stories which follow the exploits of Judge Matt McAlister as he feeds up justice to those in need of a big healthy helping of it.

About the Author
Matthew D. Beilstein served in the United States Army in the Gulf War with the Judge Advocate General Corps, and was assigned to the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment. He is a former United States history teacher, and is currently a high school guidance counselor. In addition, he presently serves as an adjunct professor in the School of Education at the University of Redlands.
