Although this is a novel, all dates and names of individuals are historical facts. The work encompasses some of Iberia's most turbulent periods from the 5th to the 16 th century. The novel not only highlights the chaotic period after the collapse of the Roman Empire in 473 A.C., it also refers in detail to their Visigoth successors, overthrown after two hundred and fifty years by Berbers from north Africa. It also deals with countless migrations in Europe, the Arabs as a whole and the influence of their science in particular, as it does with Christian Kings, the suffering of Jews, the role played by the Roman Catholic Church and the havoc caused by pestilence. All this is explained by an Architect and hobby historian to a fellow from Latin America, an individual born on a reed island in the Bolivian part of Lake Titicaca who went to Spain to search for his roots and ended up to make comparisons with life in the Empire of the Inka.

The author was born in 1944 in Stuttgart, Germany and lives with his English wife in Berkshire, United Kingdom. As he held a life-long interest with the thousand years of history that followed in the Iberian peninsula after the collapse of the Roman Empire in 473 A.C, he decided to write a novel providing uncanny insights to Rome's successors: Visigoths, Berber Moors, Arabs and Christian Kings. This novel follows his work "The Diary of a Conquistador" which deals with the Spanish conquest of the Inka Empire.
