Synopsis

Dogs, Frogs, and Two-by-Fours is a spirited, humorous, account of two rank amateurs' adventures while designing and building a house, from the footers to the roof. While building, they live in a small, rustic, cabin near the house site with two children, two dogs, a cat, and as many frogs, snakes, and turtles as the kids can lug home. On holidays, the cabin bursts with relatives from Bob's rollicking Cornish family. It is so crowded that Bob has to sleep with a nephew under the kitchen table. Ruth's quixotic parents pop in and out as the whim suits them. The house, despite all, gets built between April and November. All their dreams come true: the spiral staircase, the thirty-foot long interior balcony, the fountain in the living room, roof corbels, a lake in front, and the peace that passeth understanding floating all around.

About the Author

I am a Celt (Scottish-Irish) who married a Celt (Welsh-Cornish). Therefore, our kids are Celts. Runs in the family. So much for the family tree. On to myself. I hold a Master of Arts in art with minors in English and science. I taught art, science, and English (literature and mythology) for more years than I want to think about. I finally quit the teaching, and became a National Park ranger. That was more fun. Along the way I acquired a private pilot's license, was an instructor in outdoor high adventure (climbing, caving, survival type fun), and owned a cross-country ski shop. My husband and I built a house from scratch, and that was great adventure. In 1998 I gave up being a ranger, and became a creature of leisure. I now live in Florida and walk, bike, paint pictures, and write novels and travelogues. I also design web pages and do computer graphic art free lance. And I believe... in Macintosh computers, never passing up a chance at a new experience, that love is better than money, and that travel is more important than a new kitchen floor. So I my husband and I spend 3 or 4 months on the road or over the sea every year. Catch you in Tucson - or London. We'll talk computer work and writing books and whether cats have wings.
