When I’m not making things with my hands, I’m daydreaming about making things instead. Escaping life’s everyday tasks, I enjoy imagining trying out projects, visualizing tying motions, or designing shapes and combining patterns together in my mind. I’ve always taken comfort from thinking in this way, and I’ve had some of my best ideas when driving to the supermarket! This book is right for you if, like me, you enjoy focusing on making, have a curiosity to understand how macramé art is made, and a hope to design beautiful things yourself.
When did my own obsession with macramé begin? As a ten-year-old, I first discovered knotting when practising the ‘art’ of creative shoelace tying for customized roller skates and trainers. As a teenager, I explored further by braiding and knotting my hair, which created some interesting looks, much to my family’s surprise. But it was as a student at university, wanting to put my own stamp on my first-ever rented property, that I really began to explore macramé, initially decorating with plant hangers and smaller macramé motifs, then gaining confidence to make larger wall hangings and tapestries. Now, nearly a decade later, I have macramé to thank for so many things! My pastime and hobby has transformed into an online craft business that has allowed me to reach so many people across the globe through the power of the internet, social media and in-person workshops too.
I know from my own experiences that learning the craft of macramé can take you on a fulfilling and creative journey of self-expression. This book will give you the building blocks to discover where the magic of macramé will take you.
