Synopsis

Anne Boleyn to Henry VIII, c. 1527 Intimate Letters of England's Queens opens with the letters of Catherine of Aragon to her daughter, Mary, and the letter she wrote to her husband Henry VIII shortly before her death in 1536 and concludes with Victoria, covering a period of some 400 years. This fascinating collection of letters provides an insight into the private emotions of these women, from the bitter anger expressed by Anne Boleyn in her letter to Cardinal Wolsey and her heartfelt attempt to save herself from death while imprisoned in the Tower in May 1536 to the utter despair felt by Queen Victoria on the death of her beloved husband. We are all aware of the important parts these women played in the history of England, but here we see them as the real women they were: strong, fragile, in love, in pain, intensely human.
