Paul E. Stiffler, D.Min. Minister of Pastoral Care, Western Springs, Illinois, Ordained fifty-six years; married fifty-nine years A Guide for Your Spiritual Pathways Years of pastoral duty and theological thought brought me to where I am today. In 1951, as a student in seminary, I was assigned to the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Downers Grove, Illinois, and continued there for four years. I then moved to Faith United Church of Christ on the South side of Chicago, serving as both an associate and senior minister until 1963. The next seven years were given to First Congregational United Church of Christ in Kankakee, Illinois. My next full-time pastorate for twenty-four years was at Community Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) of Villa Park, Illinois, from where I retired in 1994. While in Villa Park, both my spiritual and theological journey culminated by receiving a Doctor of Ministry degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in Oak Brook, Illinois; however, studies in spirituality continued. While in retirement, I served First Congregational Church of Dwight, Illinois, part-time at Peace Memorial Church in Palos Park, Illinois, and presently part-time minister of Pastoral Care at First Congregational Church in Western Springs, Illinois. Looking back to 1994 at which time Elsie and I moved to our home in Kankakee where the Iroquois and Kankakee Rivers conjoin. A friend, Dan Jones, his brother, Paul, Elsie, and I built a 16 ft "e 20 ft studio, which was named The Centering Place. It was in this studio that I began to write materials which carried that name following the church and calendar year. Poems centering on the liturgical seasons and guided images were written as one might write while on a spiritual journey; I now share these personal reflections of more than fifty-eight years as we venture together on this spiritual journey.
