He begins with some history of the sport, then follows with columns on physiological and philosophical concerns, training considerations, aging factors, ego conflicts, and race management issues. He interviews 25 legendary runners and reports on his own experiences over 50 years of running and 40 years of writing about the sport in various national publications.
