Phillips Brooks (1835-1893) was born in Boston and educated at Harvard College and the Protestant Episcopal Seminary at Alexandria, Virginia. He ministered at Holy Trinity Church in Philadelphia from 1862 until 1869 when he was called as pastor of Trinity Church in Boston.
