"Old photographs and lots of stories make this book just as interesting to today's rodeo fans as it was to those 40 years ago."-"Western Horseman,"

"From this unembellished miscellany of data the reader gains a picture of rodeo as it really is from the inside out, with the help of facts such as that bucking broncos are born not made."-"North San Antonio Times,"

"This colorful and detailed study of rodeo-the exhibition in which the cowboy's work became his sport-traces its beginnings from the early fiestas, stampedes, and roundups of the mid-19th-century American West to its development as a full-fledged entertainment spectacle. The work, originally published in 1947, remains the standard introduction to rodeo history.'"-"New York Times Book Review,"
