David Connor is a retired physician living in Petaluma, California.  His interest in poetry began early in life, influenced by his mother and a great aunt, a poet of the 1930’s. He did not have a literary education; instead he graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Economics and from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. and an M.D. He practiced Nephrology in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years and began attending poetry workshops with Diane Frank, Dale Biron, and Prartho Sereno. In his retirement, he writes a poem every day and has traded his medical practice for fly fishing rivers.  He also has a collection of signed books published by some of the most famous poets of his generation.

—Dale Biron, Coach, Speaker, Poet,

Author of Why We Do Our Daily Practices

“The Here and Now of It is a book of wit and wisdom, a life of experience distilled into vision and joy. It’s fascinating to read about the life adventures of someone who has lived through eight decades and share in the wisdom he has gleaned.  David is a world traveler and seems to know a little bit about everything.  The next time you need to laugh, read “A Bit of a Poem about a Bit of Ink.”  If you want to share an experience of universal love, read the poems about his dogs.  If you need to go fishing, you will find a good catch on these pages.”

—Diane Frank, Author of Canon for Bears and Ponderosa Pines

“From growing up country in Minnesota, to facing sad, brave and freely offered death, as the physician who makes it legal, David Connor’s poems heal grief with compassion and sutures, discover beauty between healing and disease, and laugh in the rolling of the unexpected world he discovers. He offers to us, as his traveling companions, his take on historical figures, philosophy, and survivorship on planet earth.”

—Melissa Hobbs, Author of Under the Pomegranate Sun.
