About the Author

Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American writer born in 1875 in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for his creations of Tarzan and John Carter, Warlord of Mars. He first started writing serial stories for magazines. His first was Under the Moons of Mars. By the time that serial was finished he had written two novels. One of them was the first in his jungle adventure series Tarzan of the Apes. It was his most successful series and eventually was made into a successful series of films. He moved to Encino, California where he died of a heart attack on March 19, 1950.
