Russell H. Conwell's "Acres of Diamonds" has become popular several times in the almost eighty-five years since it first appeared in print. I read it sometime in the 1950's when it was considered one of the best inspirational works ever and came across it again in the 1980's. When I found it again in 2004 as a work now in the public domain and apparently destined for oblivion, I determined to accept the challenge of its preservation. Acres of Diamonds is the tragic story of a well to do farmer who, gripped by an almost obscene obsession, sold everything to search for what the new owner of his farm found in his own back yard - the worlds most lucrative diamond mine. Russell H. Conwell told this story from the stage to more than 5, 000 spellbound audiences over a period of many years, gathering and adding other local stories of those who missed out on opportunities at home to fruitlessly search for wealth afar. Robert Shackleton, tells the story of Conwell his friend and neighbor, author speaker, lawyer preacher, Civil War Captain, founder of Philadelphia''s Temple University, biographer and colleague of several US Presidents, friend and acquaintance of enough famous people to fill a couple of chapters of "Who's Who". Among Conwell's early friends was revolutionary activist John Brown who may have been more responsible than any other individual for starting the US Civil War. The old song said;John Brown's body lies a molding in the graveHis soul goes marching on. It is my hope that through this book, so too will the soul of Russell H. Conwell. Len McNally

Len left the Royal Canadian Air Force after ten years, including three and a half with Canada's NATO Forces in France, (where his twins Shelly and Jeff were born) ended a bad marriage and returned to Sault Ste. Marie where family was of tremendous help in making the transition to civilian and bachelor father. Len began taking night courses at university and worked for the next twelve years in various sales positions with a Steel Service Centre in the Sault, Mississauga, Ontario and London, Ontario. In London, he married Janna, who not only believed in his abilities, she actually enrolled him in the Canadian Institute of Management's CIM Program at The University of Western Ontario. He graduated with Honors four years later. About two years into this program, a manufacturing customer offered him the position of Sales and Marketing Manager. Over the next few years sales doubled and doubled again and Len gained great confidence in his ability to make things happen. Ten years later, bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, he tried a leasing company franchise, then worked on contract Career Counselor where he was never comfortable, although loved the work. When one of his clients found an opportunity to get into the People Development business, Len bought in too and The Leadership Centre was born. He soon realized that a huge "do it our way" organization would never again be a fit and left to become an independent Executive and Corporate Coach. Len wrote articles for a business magazine, then for publication on a large number of websites and online newsletters and began working on a life long ambition - to write a book. During research, he found an old favorite, Acres of Diamonds, now with copyright expired, in the public domain. While this important work held a still relevant message it was now dated, in terms of wording, grammar and many of the people and events it referred to. He began the task of modernizing, editing and updating the work, researched people and events - p
