Mad Ink, Angry Paper is a book of light verse filled with humor and drama. It contains poetry for children and adults alike. The title comes from the first two poems which won third place in 2004 York County Arts Council contest. There are several poems that tell stories such as Ollie Otter which actually held the attention of a kindergarten class for the entire reading. Here you will find the Growdyville children who are different from us. You will learn about gnus and leopards and ants and elephants. For the gruffest of the adult crowd, I dare you to read The Old Man on the Pier without shedding at least one tear. There are poems about life and living and death and dying, the Grim Reaper, Dragons, Stair Monsters, Ghosts and Omens. For the most tender of females, there are poems about Unfulfilled Desires, Joy of Sleep, Innocence and even one about Harry Connick. If you have ever read a poem and liked it, there is something here that is sure to bring a tear to your eye, a warm glow to your heart or a smile to your face.

Mike Marr has been writing poetry since he was a child. Most of it was written covertly since he was part of a rough group who thought any kind of literary endeavor was a sissy thing to do. His poems run the gamut from silly to serious, from loneliness to being in love and from 1958 to the present. He is a husband, a brother, a son, a father and a grandfather and each of these has had an influence on his writing. His sister introduced him to Ogden Nash and Edward Lear when he was too young to understand how these people could poison his brain. He, later, became great friends with the works of Robert Frost, Edgar Allan Poe and Lewis Carroll from whom he has stolen unmercifully. Mike's first book, Hero of Bullfrog Hill, is a compilation of short stories about growing up southern. He still lives in the South where he was born and raised and where by the grace of God he will spend his remaining days locked away at his computer pounding out non-sense.
