About the Author

Deborah K. Padgett is a professor at New York University's Silver School of Social Work and is currently Director of the Masters in Global Public Health program at N.Y.U. . She received her doctorate in anthropology and completed post-doctoral training programs in public health and psychiatric epidemiology at Columbia University and Duke University. Dr. Padgett has published extensively on the health/mental health needs and service use of underserved ethnic groups, women, and the homeless. She is author of Qualitative Methods in Social Work Research, Second Edition (2008), co-author of Program Evaluation, Fifth Edition (2009), and editor of Handbook of Ethnicity, Aging and Mental Health (1995). She has previously served as President of the Society for Social Work and Research (S.S.W.R.) and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare in 2011.
