There are six titles in this seres of 'The Web of Life'. This title looks at the basics of life, including movement, respiration, nutrition, excretion, reproduction and growth in a very ordered, sensible an educational manner. It uses colour photographs and colour diagrams to show what happens in cells, inside plants or animals, or under the microscope about how systems work. There is also some comparative biology, all aimed at about 8-12 years of age. In KS2, children study life cycles and life processes and this is an excellent series to support that learning. The series shows how all living things are interdependent. This, in turn, highlights how vital it is for all of us to care for our world to enable this interdependency to remain in balance. The seven life processes are discussed in this title. There is an interesting case study - blue whale versus puffball fungus; an intriguing juxtaposition! There is plenty of opportunity for discussion around the issues arising in the book, making it a good classroom resource.
