About the Author

With a Ph. D. in History andeight books in print, Edith Borroff is a valued historian.¿ Primarily a composer but unable to teachcomposition to a university (women were not allowed), she got her Ph. D. in thehistory of music at the University of Michigan in 1958, and taught at severaluniversities until her retirement in 1992.
