Synopsis
This work explains and challenges UK government thinking about reforming the professions in health care. Chapters cover developments in nurse-led care and shifting boundaries in medicine. The unacknowledged role of health care assistants, the place of complementary therapists, carers and patients themselves are considered. There is a focus on clearer visions for the future and on bringing public health more firmly into primary care. About the Author
CELIA DAVIES is Professor of Health Care at The Open University. She has written widely on health professions, particularly nursing, and on organisations and health policy. She led production of The Open University's continuing professional development course for health and social care practitioners, Critical Practice in Health and Social Care. She is most well-known for her book Gender and the Professional Predicament in Nursing (Open University Press, 1995). -
