About the Author
Dr Sam Parnia is one of the world's leading experts on the scientific study of death, the state of the human mind and brain and near-death experiences. He now spends his time between UK hospitals and Cornell University in New York, where he is a Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He Founded the consciousness Research Group in the University of Southampton and is chairman of the Horizon Research Foundation. Dr Parnia also currently runs a new and innovative scientific study, in collaboration with numerous medical centres in the UK, that aims to finally discover through science what happens when we die. He is consistently in demand as a speaker and has made numerous media appearances, including appearing on This Morning and Richard & Judy. His groundbreaking research has been featured on the BBC and Discovery documentary, The Day I Died.
Synopsis
In hospital, Dr Sam Parnia faces life and death issues every day. Through his work in critical care, he became very interested in some of his work in critical care, he became very interested in some of his patients' accounts of the experiences that they had while clinically at the point of death. He started to collect these stories during his time at Southampton Hospital and read all the latest research on the subject. He then set about performing his own series of experiments, and his work has culminated in this extraordinary book.
