The present edition of Plutarch's Life of Pericles for the use of English-speaking students was begun two years ago and has been prepared on the same lines as that of his Life of Themistocles (third Edition and I venture to express a hope that it may meet with as favourable a reception as its pre decessor, in spite of its shortcomings of which I am myself fully conscious.
