The representatives of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are aware of my desire to see accomplished the Bay Verte Canal.
I was also an advocate for the construction of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, during, and since, the late Messrs. Lafontaine and Baldwin administration, and I am still of Opinion its construction ought to be commenced immediately, to complete a line of a ship canal, through British territory, from the Bay of Fundy to the head of Lake Superior,. And finally on to the Saskatchewan. And had I been honoured by being one of the Canal Commissioners, I am co'nfident I could have suggested a plan for obtaining the capital required for all these works for a period of years, without requiring the return of any of the principal.
