Die Möglichkeit der Herausgabe dieses Werks ist lediglich dem um die Förderung und Verbreitung des Studiums der Mathe matik und um die vielseitige Ausbildung dieser Wissenschaft höchst verdienten Herrn etc. Dr. Crelle zu verdanken; indessen mufsten die eigenthümlichen, dabei obwaltenden Umstände nothwendig so grofse Verzögerungen mit sich bringen, dafs nun darüber allein schon mehr als vier J ahrc verflossen sind. Während einer so langen Zeit berichtigen und erweitern sich schon die wissenschaft lichen Ansichten, und daher kommt es, dafs in diesem Werke Män gel vorhanden sind, welche der Verfasser schon längst als solche erkannt hat die er aber erst in einer neuen Ausgabe zu ver bessern im Stand sein würde aber unfehlbar verbessern würde, obgleich so ziemlich dieselben Mängel in den ausgezeichnetsten Schriften der Vorgänger ebenfalls sich finden.
