Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a captivation historical account of a French noble's unsuccessful lifelong pursuit of a woman of lower social status. Set during the extended peace of the 17th century, the book depicts how both the marquis and the woman he seeks to marry navigate an environment increasingly influenced by the privation and corruption of the era. The book's rich descriptions of their personal journeys and the concurrent political climate create a multifaceted portrait of the difficulties faced by those at either end of the societal spectrum during the period. The reader will be left with a vivid sense of the world the author recreates, enriched by an understanding of the complex dynamics between power, love, and social change during this era of French history.
