Ils ne s'adressent à aucun parti politique, ni victorieux ni vaincu; ils ne font appel à aucune passion éteinte attiédie ou ar dente; ils n'ubritent aucun intérêt; ils ne déguioefl: ni ne simulent aucune peur; ils ne cachent nine dé ploient aucun drapeau derrière lequel aient jamais marché aucune armée, aucune émeute. Aussi ne comptent - ils que sur un très petit nombre de lecteurs, car ceux que ne rebute point et surtout que n'ef fraye pas la recherche du Vrai, Cercando il vero, tendent à diminuer chaque jour de plus en plus. Le Vrai peut être comparé à une mine explorée depuis si longtemps qu'on n'en saurait plus rien extraire qu'à la condition d'y descendre à d'immenses profondeurs, profondeurs exigeant des visiteurs ou une grande ha bitude ou une grande intrépidité. Il ne faut donc point s'étonner que la visite du Vrai soit devenue si rare. Les moins peureux sont ceux qui, descendus à moitié de son puits et n'osent descendre plus bas, se hâtent d'en remonter glacés d'épouvantc.
