By prudence, industry, and economy, the gains of pork and sausages accumu lated year by year, until the huxter became the wholesale dealer and adventurous speculator while the boarding-house expanded into the aristocratic mansion above Bleecker, the daughters ex changed the rolling-pin for the piano, and magnificent weekly entertainments almost made the whole family forget that all their greatness is derived from a long line of illustrious dead - hogs.
