There are nevertheless many fundamental principles underlying this geological map reading which may well be studied in the class-room, in order that their importance may be fully realised in the field and it is the object of the present book to direct the attention of students to these. It should however be borne in mind that any book dealing with the subject must of necessity be regarded as merely preliminary or complementary to work in the field.
