It is with feelings of gratitude, twofold in their application, that the author pens these few lines of preface.
In the first place, it is perhaps correct to refer to the public, that has so kindly shown its appreciation of the author's labours, as to entail upon him the further labour of preparing this third edition for issue on the completion of the first decade of the book's existence. As a matter of historical fact, it may be remarked that the stripling was in a state of suspended anima tion for a twelvemonth between the periods of the two former editions.
