Excerpt from Mechanics of Ventilation
The Mechanics of Ventilation was prepared in the intervals of professional work, and is, like the generality of engi neering papers, by no means perfect from the literary point of View. Indeed, in dealing with actualities it may be an open question whether literary polish is at all necessary. It frequently happens that the highly polished paper contains very little information, an unfortunate predicament into which the author hopes he has not fallen.
It is intended to extend this theory of ventilation to mines. A lack of definite data presents such extensions at present.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an examination of the ventilation of buildings from its very beginning and through several eras. The author divides the history of ventilation into five eras and places himself in the fifth era of ventilation, beginning in 1877, the date of publication. His aspiration is to expand this theory of ventilation to mines, but acknowledges a lack of data to pursue the expansion at the time of writing. The author thoroughly examines the causes of the need for ventilation - listing five main reasons - as well as discussing sources of contamination, warming, mechanics of air, temperatures, and humidity. He makes the case that ventilation should be based on scientific principles.
