Excerpt from The Words of the Apostles
Thus much I wrote as a portion of the preface to the first edition; and even now I cannot more clearly describe the per manent and fundamental character of the work. But, God be thanked, the complaints as to the prevailing Spirit of theology and exegesis which I then expressed cannot now be so forcibly repeated. Since then, much has been done in attaining to a greater progress in the devout and believing comprehension of Holy Scripture.
