Excerpt from Notes and Queries, Vol. 1: A Medium for Intercommunication for Literary Men, General Readers, Etc.; January June, 1874
If, however, W. N. Y. Thinks it worth while to send to my address below a private communication, covering Sketches of the shapes of the pieces he possesses, with tracings of the marks on the porcelain, and a full description of the colours and pattern of the decoration, I shall be happy to secure further consideration for his specimens by practical professional men, as well as by myself, an amateur student of thirty-five years' standing. In the mean time, if he would submit one of his breakfast pieces to Mr. Barnet Phillips, of the New York Times, I think that that gentleman would be able to give a shrewd opinion respecting the true or fictitious nature of the ware.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a scholarly examination of electoral politics, constitutional power, and evolving conceptions of representation and legitimacy in late medieval and early modern England. The author argues that the right to vote and the authority of Parliament were seen as grounded in custom rather than in abstract theories of natural rights or popular sovereignty. The book traces the evolution of these ideas through a series of case studies, including the Good Parliament of 1376, the deposition of Richard II in 1399, and the constitutional crises of the early Stuart period. The author shows how these events shaped the development of Parliament and the monarchy and provides a new understanding of the origins of modern democratic thought.
