Excerpt from The Galvanometer: A Series of Lectures
For purposes of absolute measurement the coils of the galvanometer must be of known dimensions, they must be at a known distance from the needle, and the latter must be situated in a magnetic field of known intensity. The simplest form, which is also that most frequently met with in practice, consists of one or more circular coils mounted vertically in the magnetic meri dian. Where a single coil is used the needle is in its axis. When there is more than one coil, these have a common axis in which the needle hangs.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces galvanometers and presents theoretical and practical instruction about these instruments and their use in measuring current and magnetic field strength. Galvanometers, the author explains, are essential tools and indispensable to modern electrical science, with applications in power plants, telegraphy, laboratory work, and many other areas. The author discusses key concepts such as influence of current on a magnet, calculation of galvanometer constants, corrections for various external and internal factors, and more. Readers will learn not only how to use galvanometers, but also how to improve their overall performance. The theories and applications presented in this book are essential knowledge for anyone working with galvanometers, whether for the first time or as an experienced researcher looking to explore their full capabilities. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
