Excerpt from The Cambrian Journal: Published Under the Auspices of the Cambrian Institute; Volume for 1864
It has been the fashion of late, in some quarters, to decry Welsh Literature - and in others to throw a doubt on the antiquity of the Welsh Records, &c. Jealousy has had something to do with the former, and infidelity, which seeks to unsettle everything, with the latter. Be it so. Still we think it is the duty of those who are free from both, to persevere in bringing to light whatever remains of the literary productions of the Ancient Britons, and thus to aid in collecting materials for a truer and more extended history of their primeval civilization their sanguinary struggles with the invaders of their country - and the fearful disadvantages under which they laboured in preserving their nationality, their language, and their freedom.
