Intention vs. Expectation: Which predicts what you actually do? This study tests whether behavioral expectations outperform intentions in forecasting real weekend actions. The results suggest BE often yields stronger predictions than BI across a range of ordinary behaviors.

The authors compare two ways of measuring what people plan to do with how they actually behave. They recruited 197 students, gave one group a BI question set and another BE, then checked their weekend actions several days later. The findings show BE tends to be more predictive of later behavior than BI, with BE-B correlations generally larger than BI-B correlations.

These findings invite further exploration of how people form judgments about their actions and how researchers measure those judgments. The work highlights the potential advantages of using expectation-type measures in behavioral prediction and points to questions for future theory and practice.
