Few birds are better known, or more respected by man, than the red-breasts. They live almost under our roofs, becoming more familiar on the approach Of severe weather. These birds are so seldom disturbed by the hand Of man, that but for the cats, and other such grimalkins, they would be come much more common than they are.
A short description will suffice. The bill is slender and delicate, though hard; the eye large and black the head and back a greenish-brown the neck and breast of a deep reddish-orange, with a spot of the same colour on the forehead; the belly, and under parts a dull white; the legs are dusky.
