Excerpt from A Catalogue of the Collection of Works Relating to the County of Surrey, Contained in the Minet Public Library
The collection is still very far from being complete, nor would a catalogue Of it even now be issued, were it not for two con siderations: first, that an uncatalogued collection of books is as a light hid under a bushel; and, second, that the point has been reached at which the sympathetic assistance Of others becomes of real value.
Most of the works obtainable through the ordinary Channels have been secured, but entrance has barely been made into what may be termed the field of minor local history. As illustrating What is included under this title, may be noted manuscripts, lectures delivered locally, transcripts and Copies of inscriptions on monuments, notes on local natural history, plans, particulars of sale (old and new), et hoe genus omne. Material of this class is difficult to hear of, and seldom comes into the market: Often.
