Excerpt from On the Common Maxims of Infidelity
Tms work was prepared for publication at the solicitation of some whose judgment the Christian public regard with favor The design and execution are original, there being no work, that I know of, where the points of infidelity which are in common circulation as maxims, are thus distinctly treated of. Dr. Nelson's Cause and Cure of Infidelity is a work of peculiar excellence and utility; but it does not show with the distinctness which is desirable what infidelity is as a system, or in what way many of its main arguments are to be met. It seemed to me that something more might be said without treading on ground which he has admirably occupied, and said in a way to strengthen his positions, and in defence of the truth.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into common skeptical assertions, challenging the idea that individuals are not responsible for their beliefs or actions. The author argues that our beliefs are shaped by our emotions and personal inclinations and that we must take responsibility for our moral choices. The author explores the role of sincerity in belief, highlighting that genuine conviction does not excuse harmful actions. Furthermore, the book questions the notion that the light of nature is a sufficient guide in matters of religion, arguing that human nature, influenced by sin, often leads us astray. Instead, the author emphasizes the significance of divine revelation to provide moral direction. This book offers a compelling critique of skeptical maxims, highlighting the importance of personal responsibility, the influence of emotions on beliefs, and the need for divine guidance in understanding morality and religion.
