Excerpt from Ibsen and His Creation: A Psycho-Critical Study
Tins book is an attempt to deal, above all, with Ibsen as representative of modern consciousness. In this respect it may be considered a comple ment to the merely aesthetic or merely social criticisms of Ibsen and his works. Although the present study forms an independent whole, it is nevertheless inwardly connected with my psycho-critical study of Dostoevsky (dostoevsky and bis Creation, Collins) and also with two other studies which are to follow.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the life and works of Henrik Ibsen, a pivotal figure in late 19th-century theatre, examining his place within the broader context of European literary and intellectual movements. The author argues that Ibsen's plays, far from being mere social commentaries or expressions of aestheticism, are symbolic representations of the changing consciousness of his era, reflecting a profound sense of unease and uncertainty about the human condition. By exploring the complex relationship between morality and religious faith in Ibsen's characters, the book reveals the playwright's own internal struggles with doubt and disillusionment. It examines how Ibsen's plays often grapple with the clash between personal ambition and the constraints of society, exploring themes of individual responsibility, societal hypocrisy, and the search for meaning in a rapidly changing world. This book offers a profound analysis of Ibsen's work, revealing the author's insightful observations about human nature, societal norms, and the artistic process, illuminating the lasting relevance of Ibsen's work for both contemporary audiences and literary scholars.
