Excerpt from Elements of Physics
To those students at least whose schooling ends with the high school, physics should be a connecting link be tween their study and their work. Except in special cases it bears more on the daily affairs of life than any other subject, and thus gives an opportunity of emphasizing the practical value of study. This we have attempted to do; and have also sought to connect high-school mathematics with practical life by breaking away from formulas and set equations, and obliging the student to carve out his own processes, as is necessary in most applications.
