Synopsis
Excerpt from Liber Ad Honorem Augusti: Secondo IL.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents newly edited and annotated text of the Liber ad honorem Augusti, a Latin poem by the medieval Italian writer Peter of Eboli. Written in the late 12th century, the poem is a valuable historical source on the struggle for the Sicilian throne between the Hohenstaufen Emperor Henry VI and Tancred of Lecce, a claimant from a rival dynasty. The author, a strong supporter of Henry, offers a vivid account of the events of the war, including military campaigns, diplomatic negotiations, and personal interactions between the key figures involved. The poem is also notable for its literary qualities, with the author employing rhetorical flourishes, vivid imagery, and biting satire to bring his narrative to life. The book's introduction provides extensive analysis and discussion of the historical and literary significance of Peter of Eboli's work.
