Went into quarters at U. S. Barracks, Baton Rouge; then went into camp at junction of Bayou Sara and Clinton roads.
Engaged in Battle of Baton Rouge Aug. 5, '62; losing heavily in killed and wounded. Regiment thanked for its bravery by Gen. Butler, in general orders. A large number of our wounded were drowned while en route to New Orleans, soon after the battle, by the sinking of steam transport White man, in collision with a Federal gun-boat.
