Die Aufzählung der auf tretenden Personen nur nach der Zeiten Abfolge würde jeder inneren logi schen Ordnung und aller poetischen Anziehung entbehren wiederum rein sachliche Zusammenstellung oder ausschliesslich ästhetisch wirksame Grup pierung der durch ferne Zeiträume Getrennten würde die thatsächlich ge gebene historische Entwicklung gänzlich vermissen oder wenigstens ver kennen lassen. Mit feinem Tact, weiser Beachtung der widerstreitenden psychologischen Bedingungen einer anregenden und gedeihlichen Lectüre und mit fester Hand ist das Schifflein der Charakteristik durch die Scylla und Charybdis genauer aber abstossender Formen hindurchgeleitet.
