Je n'insis terai pas non plus sur le travail d'an1iotation tout en m'abstenant de discuter avec l'auteur, j'ai tâché de faire un commentaire perpétuel de son oeuvre, comme on en use avec les auteurs grecs ou latins. Je m'y suis appliqué surtout à la confrontation, pour ainsi dire, de la Roche foucauld avec lui - même, par de nombreux renvois entre ses pensées, et à sa confrontation avec les moralistes an ciens ou modernes, par des rapprochements que j'ai multipliés autant queje l'ai pu.
