Âu Tibet il n'y a pas de boutiques sur la rue. Il n'y a męme pas, tant les villes sont rares, de nom spécial pour dire une rue. Les grandes cités sont les monastčres dont les moines gouvernent, rendent la justice, lčvent l'impôt, impriment les livres, font le commerce, la banque et la guerre. Notre sičcle, au Tibet, est encore un trčs vieux moyen âge, mais son peuple pense et parle comme l'on faisait au temps féodal d'homčre. Aprčs le Tibet, la Chine semble banale, d'une organisation trop pareille ŕ la nôtre. Aussi re tourne - t-ou chez ce peuple dont l'inconnu attire, qui ignore le reste de la terre, qui ne peuplerait pas une ville comme Paris et défend par son inertie un pays grand comme quatre fois la France.
