A Mamers, les membres du clergé prêtèrent serment le 30 janvier 1791, à onze heures du matin, en l'église Notre - Dame, à l'issue de la messe paroissiale, en présence du conseil général de la commune et des fidèles assemblés. Le curé, jean-louis Brémont, s'est présenté le premier et a dit qu'en exécution du décret de l'assemblée nationale du 27 novembre dernier, sanctionné par le roi le 26 décembre suivant, et publié en cette municipalité, le dimanche 23 janvier, il était dans l'intention, conformément audit décret, de prêter le serment civique et il a prononcé à haute et intelligible voix qu'il jurait et promettait de veiller avec soin sur les fidèles de la paroisse confiés à ses soins, d'étre fidèle à la Nation, a la loi et au Roi, et de maintenir de tout son pouvoir la Constitution décrétée par l'assemblée nationale et acceptée par le roi, dans tout ce qui n'est point contraire à la religion catholique, apostolique et romaine, se soumettant, pour tout ce qui y tient essentiellement, à la décision de l'église Il fut suivi dans cette forme de serment avec réserve, par François Mortier, jean-baptiste Deshayes, et Joseph - Julien Deshayes.
