The preparation of this book has resulted from years of delightful study of art and architecture in connection with a regular college course, and the art course at the Philadelphia School of Design; from an early developed love for outdoor life; and from an intimate study of beautiful home surround ings in the form of garden architecture during ex tensive travels in various European countries. And throughout the United States.
Over twenty of the chapters have been written especially for this book, and, with over a hundred of the illustrations, have never appeared in magazines or other publications.
