Excerpt from Graphical Statics: Two Treatises on the Graphical Calculus and Reciprocal Figures in Graphical Statics
For some years I had used a rough English manuscript summary of Professor cremona's works on the Grap/iieai Calculus and Reciprocal Figures, while reading with engineer ing students of University College, London. As English versions were much wanted, I was advised by Professors pearson and kennedy to ask the consent of Professor cremona to my undertaking their translation, and at the same time they supported my application to the Delegates of the Clarendon Press that they should become the publishers. To both applications a most cordial consent was given; and I take the opportunity of thanking both the Author and the Delegates for the trust they have reposed in me. The trans lations have been revised by Professor cremona and certain portions (in particular Chap. I. Of Reciprocal Figures) have been entirely written by him for the present English edition. I regret that a long delay has occurred in the appearance of this book, due chiefly to pressure of work both on the part of myself and Professor cremona.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating realm of graphical statics, a branch of mechanics that employs geometric diagrams to solve complex engineering problems. The author, a renowned mathematician and professor, presents a comprehensive exploration of fundamental principles and their practical applications in fields like bridge construction, roof design, and structural analysis. Emerging during the late 19th century when engineering was rapidly evolving, this book played a pivotal role in popularizing graphical methods among engineers and scientists. It offers a clear and concise explanation of key concepts, including the use of signs in geometry, graphical addition and multiplication, and the extraction of roots. The book delves into advanced topics such as centroids, the rectification of circular arcs, and the intricate relationship between force polygons and funicular polygons. Through detailed illustrations and practical examples, readers gain a deeper understanding of how graphical techniques can be applied to analyze forces, determine equilibrium conditions, and design stable structures. By bridging the gap between theoretical principles and practical applications, this book provides engineers and students with valuable tools and insights for solving real-world problems. Its enduring relevance underscores the power and elegance of graphical statics as a fundamental approach to understanding the mechanics of structures and systems. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781332327034_0
