Palmer's memory, save among his friends, of Whom he had a larger circle than falls to the lot of most, may perhaps be less vivid than when the whole world talked of the murdered scholar, and of the great service he rendered to his country, and of the funeral in St. Paul's Cathedral, where the poor remains - all that had been left by the jackals - were reverently laid in the crypt in the presence of a great company who mourned deeply and truly. The tablet commemorating his death stands in the wall under one of the windows in the crypt; the portrait of him in his Oriental robes, as the Syrian Effendi Abdullah, hangs in the hall of his college his books continue to keep his memory green.
