Master the essentials of bacteriological technology and sterile technique.
This edition presents practical, field‑tested methods for isolating and studying bacteria with purity. It covers how to prevent contamination, choose suitable sterilization temperatures, and use common lab tools to prepare culture media and vessels. The guidance is focused on reliable techniques that researchers rely on to obtain trustworthy results.
What you’ll experience
- Clear explanations of sterilization methods, from flame sterilization to steam under pressure
- Step‑by‑step setup of equipment like sterilizing ovens and Koch steam apparatus
- Approaches for isolating anaerobic bacteria, including plate cultures, deep solid media, and capillary tubes

Excerpt from Bacteriological Technology for Physicians: With Seventy-Two Figures in the Text
In the work, I have had two objects in view: the prepara tion of an outline adapted to bacteriological courses for physi eiaus and veterinary surgeons, and a guide for those who are obliged to take up the subject at home without the assistance of an instructor, yet wish to carry out for themselves the fundamental experiments which are most important for path ology and hygiene. I have, therefore, not attempted to give an exhaustive presentation of the entire technology of the subject, but rather to describe the simplest and most easily managed apparatus and methods, so that the equipment of a home laboratory need not appear too expensive; while I have tried to describe these in a sufficiently elementary and de tailed manner.
