Excerpt from English Church Law and Divorce: Notes on the Reformatio Legum Ecclesiasticarum; Notes on the Divorce and Re-Marriage of Sir John Stawell

We are greatly indebted to the Rev. Claude Jenkins, the Lambeth Librarian, for the invaluable assistance he has rendered in respeét of Part I and its Appendices, by copying this ms., writing the introduétion to it, com piling the Index, reading proofshand helping in other ways. Many of the extraé'ts from the works of writers of the sixteenth century were furnished by Mr. Jenkins, and but for his learning and industry would not have been discovered. Much assistance in searching for and copy ing records of cases in the Ecclesiastical Courts has been received and is gratefully acknowledged in the text and footnotes, but special mention should be made of our obligations in this respeé't to Mr. Kenneth Munro and Mr. W. J. Hardy, who have given valuable help in the preparation of Part I. In the text, as dis tinguished from the Appendices, modern spelling has, for the sake of clearness, been generally employed.
