Excerpt from Horace in London: Consisting of Imitations of the First Two Books of the Odes of Horace
The following Imitations of the Odes of Horace were originally written without any regard to regularity of succession. Many of them made their first appearance in a month ly publication, and the Odes best calculated to illustrate the topic of the day were, from time to time, pressed into the service. They are now classedt and drilled afresh: new troops, drafted from the Roman battalion; have raised them to their proper complement, and horace IN london is in readiness to take the field.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of satirical poems from the golden age of the art form, where poets like Horace wielded their lyrical weapons to skewer the foibles of society. These poems, written in a similar vein, explore themes of vanity, politics, power, money, and more, exposing the humorous and tragic absurdities of human existence with wit and panache. The book also provides a fascinating glimpse into aristocratic Regency life, and in a broader sense into ourselves, regardless of time or place. These poems may have been written hundreds of years ago, but the author's insights into our human condition remain as sharp and relevant as ever. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781331748021_0
